Amy Lawrence-Skwiers, LMSW

In May 2000, I completed my undergraduate studies at Michigan State University (MSU) with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. I like to joke that with a BS in Psychology and $5, you can get a cup of coffee.  Joking aside, the ultimate plan was always to hang a shingle and open my own practice, but like most life goals, that didn't happen overnight.

After graduating from MSU, I made my parents proud of their financial investment by cocktail waitressing and bartending at a Blues Bar in Lansing. While it wasn't a traditional educational institution, I readily admit that it was during this chapter of my life that I began to learn the most about real life human behavior.

To move forward with a career more aligned with my studies, I took a position in human services and spent over 13 years in the public sector working with vulnerable children and families. It was during that time, I completed a Masters of Social Work at Wayne State University, where I later went on to teach as adjunct faculty. I also moonlighted as a therapist at various area practices.

In March 2013, I finally took the leap I had been planning to take all along; I opened Abundant Wellness.   I am now able to fulfill a dream and life goal by helping individuals and couples find their strengths, enhance self-awareness, and grow into the strongest version of themselves. I look forward to getting to know you and embarking on our journey together.
